The Fiesa 2012 international Sand Sculpture exhibition has been open to the public since May and has just had its overall winners announced, with sculptures of Bob Marley and Johnny Depp jointly taking the top spot.
Each year, the Algarve village of Pêra hosts the competition that see’s artists from across the world build sculptures using over 35,0000 tonnes of sand in a bid to not only show off their skills but also win the coveted first prize.
Over the past 3 months, the general public have been busy voting for their favourite sculpture. This year’s theme was idols, so amongst the towering works of art you will find everything from the Beatles to ancient gods.
The event is open both day and night, with visitors to the attraction being able to view the sculptures in the evening with plenty of special lighting, making it a great way to spend an evening.
The event will be closing next month but will operate again next year with a new theme, meaning it’s an event not to be missed whilst staying in our villas in Portugal.
