In some fantastic news for the Algarve, plans have been proposed to restructure and generally improve a section of the Lagoa dos Salgados.
The area in question is between Silves and Albufeira, with the water company Águas do Algarve planning to create a series of small islands and deepen existing ditches. The idea behind the work is to aid the preservation of this protected zone, which is the home of around 150 different species of plants, animals and birdlife. The work is expected to last around three months and could cost as much as €1.2 million to complete.
This will come as fantastic news for nature enthusiasts visiting the region and planning a stay in one of the nearby villas in Algarve, with the lake being one of the finest places at which to spot wildlife in the famed holidaying area.
