Portugal and Spain name Olympic travel winners

In a new report released by one of the largest business news magazines and websites, businessweek.com, has named both Portugal and Spain as Olympic Tourism winners.

Britain may have gotten themselves the prestigious and personal record amount of 65 medals at the recent London 2012 Olympics, but many Londoners decided to head out of the capital for the two week period.

The Balearic Islands topped the list for escapees from the Olympic Games according to one travel company that deals with last minute ticket bookings. They saw a tripling of visitor bookings to the renowned villa holiday destination, a sure sign that many Britons preferred the beaches of Mallorca and Menorca to the sand on the ground at the beach volleyball competitions held at London’s Horse Guard Parade.
