Record Year for Balearic Ports

There we’re some interesting statistics out earlier this week that highlighted just how popular the Balearic Islands are amongst tourists.

The report shows that the Balearics set a new passenger record in 2011, handling more that 1.6 million people over the course of the year. The figures, compiled by the Balearic Port Authority, also showed that the main cruise ports of the region handled a total of 745 cruise ships, with Palma obviously being the busiest with 1,429,502 passengers; many of whom would have been heading on to a villa holiday.

The figures also show a total of 123 cruise ships docked at Ibiza, up 22 percent, and 129,369 travelers passed through the port, most on their way to Villas in Ibiza Town. This is great news for the area as a whole; hopefully 2012 will see a repeat of these great figures.
