The Festa des Vermar wine fair in Majorca

The end of the month marks the start of the Balearic Islands’ grape harvest, and to mark the annual event a wonderful festival takes place in Binissalem: La Festa des Vermar.

The grape harvest festival is a massive event with activities taking place over the weekend of the 29^th and 30^th of September this year. Many local vineyards and wine producers take part in a bid to not only promote their wares, but also celebrate what is a very important and traditional way of life for many in rural Majorca.

On the Saturday (29^th), a huge parade will take place complete with traditional Mallorca puppets and plenty of traditional entertainment in the town’s main square. One of the highlights each year is the grape battle that takes place at midday, a messy but enjoyable event for all involved.
