Top four spots to bird watch in Mallorca

- (05 Mar 13) Top four spots to bird watch in Mallorca

Boasting beautiful beaches, a stunning climate and a vibrant night life, Mallorca has all the attributes needed to be recognised as the high quality resort it has become.

One such aspect of its make-up that perhaps doesn't get as much limelight as it deserves is the array of wildlife that can be found on the Balearic Island, and, in particular, the migrating birds between Europe and Africa that can be spotted whilst on one of the wonderful walks available to holidaymakers enjoying their villa holidays on the resort.

Here are four of the best spots to watch birds in Mallorca, although other rare wildlife can also be spotted.

  1. S'Albufera National Park – An area in north Mallorca that is renowned as a hot spot for migrating birds, this national park has been designed specifically for enthusiasts to catch the most extensive range of species on offer. The 1,545 hectare site includes a visitor's reception area, observation platforms and bird hides.
  2. Arta Peninsula – Based in the Serra de Llevant mountains, this stunning coastal spot regularly attracts birds such as the Serin, Firecrest, Swift and Shearwaters.
  3. La Gola, Puerto Pollensa – An area of wetland based between the Gotmar and Soller rivers which flow to the sea, visitors can get impressive and close up views of the wildlife that flies overhead.
  4. Boquer Valley near Puerto Pollensa – The rare Honey Buzzard, Black-eared Wheatear and Rock Thrush can all be seen clearly and regularly from this stunning spot, whilst Ravens, Crag Martin and Balearic Warblers are also known to drop by from time to time.

Come and see if you can spot any rare birds for yourself whilst enjoying a break in one of the excellent villas in Mallorca over the coming months.
